Spirit of #55 Scholarship
In memory of Brandon James Sanders

To honor the memory of Brandon James Sanders
Class of 2010
10/20/91 - 03/21/20
Brandon loved Helix Charter High School with all of his heart, he embodied school spirit by laying it all on the table in his commitment to his team. He played football all four years, three of them as Varsity left tackle #55. Brandon was an honor student at Helix throughout his years, taking many AP classes and working like a 'dawg' juggling homework and two-a-days, as he moved toward college. He was a well-loved member of the team and classmates. Nicknamed ‘Football face’, as tough as he may have appeared on the field, he had a heart of gold - funny and and easy going, he did not hesitate to stand up for the underdog. He had a strong passion for knowledge, especially economics and political science. Brandon graduated from Helix with the class of 2010, having earned the awards of AP Scholar, Union Tribune All-Academic First Team, President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, Scholar Athlete, CIF Sportsmanship Award, Helix Varsity Football Champions Club, and the Helix HS Jim Arnaiz SCOTTIE Award. He went on to earn a degree in Economics, emphasis in Quantitative Analysis, at SDSU class of 2015.
This scholarship will be awarded to first generation, college bound scholar athletes.

Please join us in supporting Helix students in advancing their education and continuing the amazing legacy of science teacher and coach, Jeff Kepper. Coach Kepper (Kep) passed unexpectedly due to a complication of recently diagnosed cancer. He spent his entire 29 year career at Helix teaching biology and oceanography, and coaching boys’ & girls’ soccer. Kep wanted to instill his love of the environment, biology, and sports in all his students. He spent hours at home thinking of ways to make classes and learning more fun; from trips to Catalina, kayaking at the cove, exploring the safari park, building a greenhouse and so much more. He loved spending extra time with his students and our hearts have been lifted by reading countless stories about how he changed so many lives, encouraging students to accomplish their goals. Please help us continue his spirit of inspiration by contributing to the Jeff Kepper Reach Your Dreams scholarship fund.
The Kepper family loves hearing your stories of Kep and seeing pictures, so please continue to share them on his Facebook page or email his family directly at jeffkeppermemorial@gmail.com.
